torche - meanderthal

ok so i'm two songs in and fighting every impulse to hit fast forward. the hackles of my body are raising and i want it to go away. it sounds to me like millencolin smoked a bunch of weed, downtuned their instruments, indulged in some coke and hookers and then recorded it.

at first i thought that it was simply my hangover making me feel this way but half way through the 2nd track 'amnesian' i feel like i'm trapped, stuck in traffic on punt road maybe, waiting at the lights to drive 7 feet before being ground to a halt by another set of lights. FUCK, why am i doing this to myself? the greater good thats why... shut up me.

but i will persevere, its only about a minute or so till it ends. amnesian is sounding is like neurosis stripped of all imagination and creativity, torche so far seems as though their lefty principles are astray as they are surely wasting resources and my valuable time.

the next track sounds like they have lifted it from a foo fighters record. its not making my skin crawl. ok so now there is a pinkfloydyesque psychadelic breakdown, dave grohl must be rolling in his grave. i will state for the positive record that whomever is drumming is really good. fuck it, fast forward or mental breakdown - i'm hitting fast forward.

wow harmonsied back ups! i'm gunna throw down my best material for this, harmonised hardcore backups from now on shall be known as "ChoirStorms". Hey, wait, this stream on conciousness review style i think has legs... ok its taken 5 songs but HEALER is a cracker of tune, reminds me of sonic youth goo era. i think you could happily ride a bike to this song. not the others, but this one is alright.

i'm onto the title track now. what can i say. probably the less the better. not cycling music. so it would seem to me that when they play happy pop songs they are good, when they play doom sludge or what ever the fuck it is, it is punishing. i think that if i were to see them like i would throw fruit in a tin a them. Pirana is next - one word review for this - filler. can i stop now?
ok so i'm cheating, sandstorm was fast forward material. speed of nail is a song, um.... My mothers words are swilling in my brain, saying if you cant say something nice then say nothing at all, if i did that then this would be a blank post, and as far as reviews go somewhat pointless.
WOOHOO only three songs to go! sundown - hackles re-raise. for some reason this song makes me think of when i worked at an appliance outlet store where the boss would play nickleback all day long. its a place i dont want to go back to. fast forward. cool guitar riff on this track its 'triumph of venus' you could cycle to this if you wanted to. it seems to be an instrumental too which is a big plus. after this only one more song! last song is called 'without a sound' they lied to me. this could be on foxfm or nova or something, infact i reckon that you could almost sail to this track.
so to sum up, one good song, one tricky guitar riff, raised hackles and a feeling of shame. 11 other songs. i think that i told my freind that i would prefer to shit in my hand and put said shit into my ears to never have to hear this again and that statement holds. back to cash converters with this pile.

the aim

a freind pointed out to me that i was wasting valuable time and phone credit with my essay long messages explaining why i hated albums and songs. the same said freind then said that i would be better off putting this ill directed bile on the internet. so i am doing that now.

this is how this blog will operate, upon finding or being recommended new music, i will listen the the album once in its entirity and tell you what i think of it. so dear reader, i would really really appreciate suggestions/recomendations to review. also i'm not so good at this internet game so i will not be posting links to downloads and stuff cos i really dont know how that works and i can't be bothered learning how. please also comment to correct my appaling spelling.
